Hello everyone, I hope you’re well. Today I wanted to do a spotlight review on The Ordinary Azelaic Acid Suspension 10% – an absolute beauty essential I can’t believe I went so long without. I’ve been using this almost daily for the past couple of months, so it’s about time I shared my thoughts. For any of you with oily and acne prone skin – this is for you.
If you’ve followed my skincare journey, you’ll know that I’ve struggled with acne for years, and been on various antibiotics and had a course of Roaccutane, never mind the countless amounts of skincare products I’ve trialled and tested hoping for results.
My most recent prescribed acne treatment was a 20% azelaic acid gel, alongside a course of antibiotics. Prior to this, I didn’t know what azelaic was – nor the benefits of it. In a nutshell, it works by clearing your pores from all that nasty bacteria that may be causing irritation or breakouts, as well as reducing inflammation and encouraging cell turnover – helping to heal the skin faster and reduce scarring.
Since my prescribed treatment worked well, when I finished this course of treatment I thought it would be worth doing some research into whether there’s any products that would work in a similar way.
I’d already tried products from The Ordinary, so I was easily convinced when I stumbled across the Azealiac Acid Suspension 10%. Other products I’ve tried and liked from The Ordinary is the Salicylic Acid Solution 2%, and the AHA 30% and BHA 2% Peeling Solution.
The Azelaic Acid Suspension aims to brighten skin tone, improve texture and minimise the appearance of blemishes. I find that my skin visibly looks smoother and brighter, as well as feeling it. What I love most about Azelaic acid is that it doesn’t cause irritation – it’s great if you have acne prone skin which is also on the sensitive side – a rather annoying combination I can relate to. The suspension has a gel-like consistency and feels incredibly light weight and breathable on the skin.
Directions: Apply to face AM and/or PM to improve visible brightness and the appearance of skin texture. Avoid contact with eyes and mouth. Use sun protection during the day.
